The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Private First Class Wray Earl Walker (ASN: RA-12847724), United States Army, for heroism in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Walker distinguished himself by valorous actions on 18 August 1968, while serving as a Rifleman with Company C, 2d Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, on a reconnaissance in force mission in Long An Province. Private Walker was acting as point man when his platoon came under intense enemy fire. He immediately led several members of the point element to cover and directed protective fire so that the remaining men could reach safety. Private Walker then moved forward through the heavy fire and silenced two of the hostile emplacements with hand grenades. Private First Class Walker’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
