(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Winfred George Skelton, Jr. (ASN: 0-62598), United States Army, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, and subsequently as Senior Advisor to the 23d Army of the Republic of Vietnam Division, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Colonel Skelton’s outstanding courage and dedication to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
