(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Winfred George Skelton, Jr. (ASN: 0-62598), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, and subsequently as Senior Advisor to the 23d Army of the Republic of Vietnam Division, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Skelton and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.
