(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Lawrence Winfield Jackley, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States with Headquarters, I Field Force, and subsequently as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 173d Airborne Brigade, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Jackley and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.
