The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Orbin Ralph Truett, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 55th Quartermaster Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, on 17 June 1940. Private Truett and a comrade saved the life of a companion in a fire in the motor transport building at Fort Benning, beating out the flames which enveloped the man following an explosion. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private Truett reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
