The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Harry H. Ury, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States near Desert Center, California, on 18 June 1942. Staff Sergeant Ury entered a burning tank following an explosion and assisted to safety two members of the crew who had been trapped. Although severely burned, he re-entered the tank and extinguished the fire. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Staff Sergeant Ury reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
