The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Edwin E. Bloomfield (ASN: 36876645), United States Army, for heroic achievement in action while serving with Battery B, 861st Field Artillery Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, on 19 February, 1945, in the vicinity of Bliesguersviller, France. While under fire during the attack, Technician Fifth Grade Bloomfield assisted in adjusting artillery fire. After the objective had been taken, the enemy counter-attacked with armor and infantry. Although under heavy enemy fire, he continued to assist in directing the artillery fire which had to be placed close to his own infantry. His courage and disregard for personal safety initially aided in delaying the enemy counter-attack which was later repulsed.
