Lieutenant Colonel Nulsen distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer of the 3d Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade (Light) (Separate), in action against the enemy in 1966 and 1967.
