(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Walter Edwin Meinzen, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Meinzen and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.

Lieutenant Colonel Meinzen distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion (Airborne), 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in action against the enemy at from 1965 to 1967. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Meinzen, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
