Colonel Memminger distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Pilot of an AC-47 Dragonship of the 4th Air commando Squadron, 14th Air Commando Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in action against the enemy on 4 March 1968. Major Memminger flew in support of defending American forces at Da Nang Airbase, who were under a heavy Viet Cong rocket attack. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Memminger, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
