(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Colonel Wallace Gourley Hynds, Jr. (AFSN: 0-16792), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Colonel Hynds distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Pilot and as Deputy Commander of Operations, 432d Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action against the enemy in 1967. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Hynds, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

In this important assignment, the leadership, exemplary foresight, and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by Colonel Hynds have resulted in the approval of a program for a new and improved strategic aircraft, the initiation of modifications programs for the maintenance of the near-term capability of our current aircraft and the approval of development programs for a new air-to-surface missile, advanced avionics and advanced propulsion techniques. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Hynds and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
