Headquarters, Northwest African Air Forces, General Orders No. 128 (June 30, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Pincus P. Taback (ASN: 0-495494), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the North African Theater of Operations as Pilot of a P-38 type aircraft. On 21 May 1943, Lieutenant Taback led one flight of his squadron in escorting twenty-four B-24’s against Villacidre Airdrome. Intense anti-aircraft fire was encountered and twenty enemy fighters attacked. Lieutenant Taback shot down one ME-109, probably destroyed another and led his flight with conspicuous gallantry throughout the long running fight. All of the bombers were escorted to the home base. Lieutenant Taback’s resourcefulness and devotion to duty have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
