The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Edward I. Braddock (ASN: 0-496341), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the North African Theater of Operations as Pilot of a P-38 type aircraft. On 22 March 1943, Lieutenant Braddock’s squadron escorted fifteen B-26’s in bombing an enemy convoy in the Gulf of Tunis. Successive waves of enemy fighters attacked the bombers. Lieutenant Braddock shot down one of the enemy fighters, and played a conspicuous part in the destruction of eight other enemy aircraft. This effective protection enabled the bombers to make a highly successful bomb run, which left three Axis vessels sinking or in flames. Lieutenant Braddock’s courage and skill in combat have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
