Headquarters, Northwest African Air Forces, General Orders No. 128 (June 30, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Jesse G. Oliver (ASN: 0-495858), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the North African Theater of Operations as Pilot of a P-38 type aircraft. On 19 May 1943, Lieutenant Oliver’s squadron escorted twenty-four B-25’s over Villacidro Airdrome. Upon completing a successful bombing run, the formation was attacked by a large number of enemy fighters. Lieutenant Oliver shot down one hostile aircraft and aided notably in the destruction of six others. The protection thus afforded enabled the bombers to return safely. Lieutenant Oliver’s steadfast devotion to duty and his skill in combat have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
