The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Raymond Lynn (ASN: 0-421263), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the North African Theater of Operations as pilot of a _-38 type aircraft. On 20 March 1943, Captain Lynn led one flight of his squadron in escorting fifteen B-25’s in an assault on an enemy convoy in the Sicilian Straits. Over fifty enemy fighters attacked the formation. Directing his flight with great skill and courage, Captain Lynn played an important role in the destruction of twelve enemy aircraft, without loss to his squadron. Through this effective protection the bombers were enabled to make a successful attack which left one merchant vessel in flames. The courage, flying skill and consistent devotion to duty shown by Captain Lynn, during his long combat service, have reflected great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
