The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” (Posthumously) to Captain David Carl Lindberg (AFSN: FR-56281), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 21 May 1967. On that date, Captain Lindberg was the wingman in a flight of two aircraft which attacked a large hostile force about to overrun a friendly force. Captain Lindberg made repeated low-level attacks on the heavily defended hostile positions with complete disregard for his own personal safety. His precision ordnance deliveries, within a few meters of the friendly positions, and the aggressive manner in which he attacked the hostile guns sites allowed the beleaguered ground unit to break contact saving them from certain annihilation. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Lindberg reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
