The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Harold C. Allinson, United States Army, for gallantry in action. Sergeant Allinson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while participating in military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on 22 November 1969, while serving as a forward observer attached to the 222d Mobile Strike Force Company, assigned to Service Battery, 6th Battalion, 14th Artillery Regiment. On that date, in the vicinity of the Bu Prang Special Forces Camp, Sergeant Allinson’s company was completing the clearing of a small hill east of the camp when they came under intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and B-40 rocket fire. Without hesitation, Sergeant Allinson moved to a position next to the company commander in order to call for artillery support, yet, due to the proximity of both friendly and enemy troops, it could not be employed. Then, without warning, the enemy launched a fierce flanking attack. Without hesitation, Sergeant Allinson left his secure position, and braving a hail of enemy automatic weapons fire and exploding rockets, maneuvered himself to a strategic position where he began delivering accurate suppressive fire, killing at least one. Inspired by his actions, his outmanned Montagnard company were able to repulse the attack. As the enemy withdrew, Sergeant Allinson spotted a wounded American in the kill zone. Again, with complete disregard for his own safety, he raced through another enemy barrage, removed the injured man to more secure surroundings and rendered emergency first aid. Sergeant Allinson’s gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
