The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Fourth Class Richard J. Fisco (ASN: US-51620118), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an armed enemy force on 21 September 1967. Specialist Fisco distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as crew member of a UH-1H helicopter near Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam. Following the crash of his aircraft, Specialist Fourth Class Fisco, although injured himself, stayed with the trapped Commander and Pilot of his ship until he had freed them. During this time, the aircraft was soaked with aviation fuel and could have exploded at any time. His heroic actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
