Murphy, Jr. (ASN: 0-1302095), United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations, not involving participation in aerial flight, against an enemy of the United States during the period 27 April 1945 to 8 May 1945. As Intelligence Officer, First Lieutenant Murphy was charged with the responsibility of searching, screening and segregating the thousands of Prisoners of War that were received at the enclosure. First Lieutenant Murphy’s faithful attention to duty and untiring efforts reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
