The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Corporal James F. Streitmatter, United States Army, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of Belgium on 5 January 1945. With no regard for his own safety, he ignored continuing artillery fire to enter a burning building and remove two seriously wounded comrades, thereby saving their lives.
