The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer One (W-1) Thomas N. Glover (ASN: W-3160460), United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam while serving with the 189th Aviation Company (Assault Helicopter), 1st Aviation Brigade, on 8 February 1969 in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Glover distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Aircraft Commander of a UH-1H troop lift helicopter during the extraction of a surrounded long range reconnaissance patrol northwest of Dak To. Arriving in the area of operations, he noted the positions of enemy fire and their use of gas to discourage the rescue attempt. Without regard or thought for personal safety, he made his approach into the pick-up zone and started to receive heavy enemy fire. Coming to a high hover above the town, he proceeded to place his aircraft within critical inches of their position. He continued to maintain a constant and stable hover as the entire team scrambled board. Warrant Officer Glover’s outstanding flying ability was instrumental in the completion of the mission. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
