The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) to Brigadier General Robert Morris Stillman (AFSN: 1114A/ASN: 0-19760), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commandant of Cadets, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 1 September 1954 to 25 August 1958. During this period, General Stillman exercised outstanding leadership and foresight in planning, organizing and implementing the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Airmanship Program, a responsibility enormous in concept and unique in Air Force Analysis. He brought to this challenging task, the highest professional qualifications and motivations. His integrity, patriotism and perception in the training of young men have given a magnificent example to the Cadets under his command and will serve as an inspiration throughout their careers. General Stillman’s distinguished service during the formative years of the United States Air Force Academy has become an indelible part of Air Force history and his selfless efforts reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
