The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Walter Ogura (ASN: 35246395), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Infantry Regiment, in action against the enemy on 6 April 1945, in Italy. Private First Class Ogura’s company was pinned down by a concentrated artillery barrage of 88-mm. guns. Without regard for his personal safety, Private Ogura fired his mortar on the enemy. They suffered great casualties as a result of his action. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
