Sergeant First Class Neuzil’s actions contributed immeasurably to the success of building a free and democratic nation for the citizens of Iraq and to the efforts to win the Global War on Terrorism. Sergeant First Class Neuzil’s professionalism and commitment to excellence reflect great credit upon him, the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment, Multi National Division – North, and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Staff Sergeant David J. Neuzil, United States Army, for exceptionally valorous actions during an ambush attack on 19 April 2004 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in Iraq. His actions and counter offensive measures resulted in the successful extraction of injured personnel and a swift counter offensive to repel an enemy attack. His actions truly represent the epitome of a true cavalryman. His efforts reflect distinct credit upon himself, the 2d Dragoons, Task Force 1st Armored Division and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant First Class David Jeffrey Neuzil, United States Army, for exceptionally valorous achievement as a Platoon Sergeant on 12 November 2008 during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Sergeant First Class Neuzil and a small dismounted security element were pulling security in the courtyard of the Iraqi Army’s Company Headquarters, When a uniformed Iraqi soldier wearing body armor and carrying an AK-47, walked behind the soldiers and opened fire, instantly causing casualties. Without hesitation or regard for his own safety, Sergeant First Class Neuzil identified the Iraqi soldier as a threat and without taking cover, began engaging the gunman who was less than 12 feet away, hitting the gunman multiple times with his M-4 rifle. After eliminating the threat, Sergeant First Class Neuzil immediately began assessing and treating casualties. His valorous actions reflect great credit upon him, 25th Infantry Division, Multi National Division – North, and the United States Army.
