    Headquarters, 2d Logistical Command ©, General Orders No. 126 (May 11, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Guynn, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States as a member of Company B, 532d Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment, on 2 April 1951 at Inchon, Korea. On the night of 2 April 1951, Corporal Guynn was serving as seaman aboard a Ferry Boat operated by Company B, 532d Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. While engaged in loading passengers from Charlie Pier, one of the passengers, Captain Virtue, USN Medical Officer from the U.S.N.S. CONSOLATION, slipped and fell into the water. Tiring quickly because of the excessive weight of his winter clothing, Captain Virtue was being rapidly swept out to sea. Knowing fully the danger involved by the cold water and ebbing tide, and not a strong swimmer himself, Corporal Guynn immediately dove into the water, caught the utterly exhausted Captain, and proceeded toward shore with him. Corporal Guynn’s complete disregard for his own personal safety in accomplishing this heroic act reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of federal service.
