    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Air Medal to Sergeant First Class Eugene Mash, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious achievement on 24 April 2003 while serving as a CH-47D Flight Engineer in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Sergeant First Class Mash distinguished himself by overcoming significant obstacles to successfully complete the delivery of critical Class-I to Special Forces troops in the vicinity of An Najaf, Iraq. Tasked as a follow on mission, the delivery was accomplished despite fuel shortages, and inflexible time constraints. He put mission first and showed the tenacity and resourcefulness to bring the mission to a successful completion. His outstanding performance reflects great credit upon himself, 12th Aviation Brigade, Victory Corps, and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Air Medal to Sergeant First Class Eugene Mash, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as a CH-47D Flight Engineer in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Sergeant First Class Mash distinguished himself during an in-flight medical emergency. When a passenger became a heat casualty and lost consciousness, he quickly took charge of the situation and provided immediate aid. He directed the crew and other passengers for the assistance he needed, stabilized the casualty, and performed the necessary treatment in flight.
