The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Clifton H. Mosteller, Jr., United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia on 26 April 1971. On that date, Captain Mosteller discovered a well camouflaged bunker complex with important stores of hostile supplies. Using marking rockets to pinpoint the difficult target, he directed a flight of tactical air fighters in a successful airstrike despite intense ground-to-air fire. As a result of his actions, numerous hostile fortified fighting positions were destroyed and a strategic store of hostile supplies was ruined. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Mosteller reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
