Under the provisions of Department of Defense 1348.33-M, the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America takes pleasure in awarding the Defense Superior Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Bryan K. Hasty, United States Air Force, for exceptionally superior service to the Department of Defense. Lieutenant Colonel Hasty demonstrated exceptionally superior service and distinguished leadership during his assignment as the Chief Information Officer from October 2011 to September 2014. Lieutenant Colonel Hasty’s leadership, initiative, and intelligence helped establish and direct the Marshall Center’s “eCampus” initiative, the cornerstone for developing teaching methodologies at the College for International and Security Studies. His hard work led directly to the establishment of a wireless network architecture incorporating the entire campus and which facilitated open access for faculty and participants to course materials in support of eleven resident programs and dozens of non-resident events every year. Lieutenant Colonel Hasty was the trusted expert on all cyber architecture, systems, and academic issues. As a leader, he charted a new era at the Marshall Center of connectivity and accessibility while also designing an infrastructure to defend the network from cyber attacks. Additionally, he provided expertise and instruction supporting the Marshall Center’s newly assigned transnational security studies mission by personally conducting lectures and providing course content and direction for several resident and non-resident programs. In the dedication of his service to his country and through his distinctive accomplishments, Lieutenant Colonel Hasty has reflected great credit upon himself, the United States Air Force, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
