The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Bronze Star Medal to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Stanley C. Anderson (ASN: 0-1322757), United States Army, for heroic achievement on 16 March 1945 in the vicinity of Koblenz, Germany. A battalion was ordered to relieve elements of another regiment, and First Lieutenant Anderson volunteered to make the preliminary reconnaissance. Moving under rain and darkness through artillery and machine gun fire, he contacted friendly troops, helped place relieving companies in position and coordinated plans with flanking units. His heroic and expert actions, which enabled the battalion to make a successful, unified attack at dawn, were in accordance with military tradition.
