The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman Second Class Dennis Marfia (AFSN: AF-13817066), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Truax Field, Wisconsin, on 19 November 1965. On that date, Airman Marfia was preparing an aircraft for take-off when a servicing vehicle suddenly burst into flames. With complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Marfia, despite the hazard of exploding fuel tanks, unhesitatingly proceeded to extinguish the fire with a hand fire extinguisher. He persisted in his efforts until the fire was brought under control, thereby preventing the loss of two valuable tactical aircraft parked nearby. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Airman Marfia reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
