(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Kevin Patrick Newell, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Executive Officer of Company C, 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 3d Brigade, 1st Armored Division, in action in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM at Karbala, Iraq, from 4 – 5 April 2003. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Newell, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
