(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Staff Sergeant Elmer R. Phoenix, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company A, 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on 28 April 1967. Staff Sergeant Phoenix three times ran through a hail of hostile fire in order to drag wounded comrades out of the line of fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
