The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Milton Brown, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 288th Field Artillery Battalion, in action against the enemy in Germany on 22 November 1944. Captain Brown, as a communication officer, while on a reconnaissance in an advance area for a command post and for wire routes to prospective battery positions, found the area being heavily shelled by enemy mortar and artillery fire. Without regard for his own safety Captain Brown placed his party under cover, personally selected wire routes through heavily mined area, and, alone, completed his reconnaissance. By personal example and superior leadership he encouraged the successful completion of a dangerous task in full view of the enemy without casualties, and reflected great credit upon himself and the military service.
