(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Leslie Stellmon (ASN: 19076393), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Crew Chief of a C-47 Transport Aircraft of the TWELFTH Air Force, in aerial operations over Sicily, on or about 11 July 1943. Technical Sergeant Stellmon showed heroism when he rescued wounded men from the plane which was burning after crashing in Sicily. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Stellmon, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
