The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Herbert H. Hardy (ASN: 0-1308333), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of Company G, 2d Battalion, 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in the European Theater of Operations, from 10 November 1944 to 17 December 1944. During that period, Captain Hardy distinguished himself by the skillful, courageous leadership he displayed while commanding his company in action. He was constantly in the lead, inspiring his men by his bold, fearless example. Captain Hardy’s many heroic achievements undertaken with complete disregard for his own safety were important contributions to the successful operations of his battalion. His fearless determination and courageous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 95th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
