    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Charles J. Selasky (ASN: 0-795305), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Navigator of a B-24 Liberator Bomber of the 67th Bombardment Squadron, 44th Bombardment Group (Heavy), NINTH Air Force, in aerial operations during the low-level bombing mission against the Oil Refineries at Ploesti, Romania, on 1 August 1943. As leading navigator for a formation of bombers, he displayed exceptional determination, calm, and skill in leading the formation to target. His ability, technical proficiency and courage contributed largely to the successful completion of this most hazardous mission. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Selasky, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
