The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Wesley Lewis Rumble, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Pilot of the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron, as an F-4D pilot in Southeast Asia on 4 March 1968. On that date, Captain Rumble pre-planned a hazardous night mission, and successfully navigated his flight on an armed reconnaissance of a heavily defended highway used to transport materials. Braving intense hostile fire, Captain Rumble was instrumental in inflicting heavy damage to the road as well as to supplies being shipped and stored along the highway. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Rumble reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
