The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Quartermaster Christopher Fowler, United States Navy, for distinguished and heroic conduct while serving on board the U.S.S. Fortune off Point Zapotitlan, Mexico, 11 May 1874. On the occasion of the capsizing of one of the boats of the Quartermaster Fortune and the drowning of a portion of the boat’s crew, Fowler displayed gallant conduct.
