    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Louis J. Nadeau (AFSN: 0-44009), United States Air Force, for heroism in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a Forward Air Controller directing fighter aircraft in Southeast Asia on 14 April 1968. On that date, he controlled air attacks from a highly vulnerable observation aircraft within a most intense anti-aircraft artillery zone. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he flew at low altitudes in an area where his black aircraft was illuminated against the clouds by his own flares and the fires from the battle for two and one half hours. As a direct result of his courageous and determined effort against superior odds, many hostile vehicles and supplies were destroyed. By his outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Nadeau he has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Lieutenant Colonel Louis J. Nadeau (AFSN: 0-44009), United States Air Force, for meritorious service as Assistant Operations and Standardization Officer, 23d Tactical Air Support Squadron, Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand,, while serving with friendly forces engaged in operations against an opposing armed force from 1 December 1967 to 1 November 1968. During this period, Colonel Nadeau successfully organized and directed his unit’s participation in the siege of Khe Sanh, their performance under his leadership was so outstanding that they received a letter of appreciation from higher headquarters. He also established a training program which enabled his unit to maintain an outstanding flying safety program and combat effectiveness record though suffering a mass change over in personnel. The exemplary leadership, personal endeavor, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Nadeau in this responsible position reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Louis J. Nadeau (AFSN: 0-44009), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an O-2A Observer in Southeast Asia on 28 January 1968. On that night, while flying in an unarmed reconnaissance aircraft in an area of intense anti-aircraft fire, he directed fighter aircraft against a large hostile convoy. Disregarding his own personal safety, he utilized his own aircraft as a decoy to enable fighter aircraft to inflict significant destruction against the hostile convoy. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Colonel Nadeau reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Louis J. Nadeau (AFSN: 0-44009), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a Forward Air Controller of the 23d Tactical Air Support Squadron, Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, directing fighter aircraft in Southeast Asia on 18 January 1968. On that date, Major Nadeau, flying at low altitude during darkness, subjected himself to intense anti-aircraft fire while making repeated low passes over hostile truck convoys, dropping flares, marking locations, and providing ground fire information to the attack aircraft. His extraordinary effort resulted in the silencing of two anti-aircraft artillery positions and destruction of tons of vital hostile supplies destined for use against friendly forces. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Nadeau has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
