The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel Louis J. Nadeau (AFSN: 0-44009), United States Air Force, for heroism in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a Forward Air Controller directing fighter aircraft in Southeast Asia on 14 April 1968. On that date, he controlled air attacks from a highly vulnerable observation aircraft within a most intense anti-aircraft artillery zone. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he flew at low altitudes in an area where his black aircraft was illuminated against the clouds by his own flares and the fires from the battle for two and one half hours. As a direct result of his courageous and determined effort against superior odds, many hostile vehicles and supplies were destroyed. By his outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Nadeau he has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
