    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Richard N. Musty (ASN: 17154775), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Ball Turret Gunner of a F-17 Flying Fortress Bomber in the 32d Bombardment Squadron, 301st Bombardment Group (Heavy), FIFTEENTH Air Force, in aerial operations over Austria in the European Theater of Operations, on 17 March 1944. Staff Sergeant Musty refused to leave his post despite the fact that he had been seriously wounded. When is aircraft was forced to leave the formation, first aid was administered to him and he succeeded in bailing out, but later died of his wounds. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Musty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
