    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant John J. Meehan (ASN: 6949374), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action while serving with the 4th Reconnaissance Squadron, SEVENTH Air Force, during the Japanese aerial attack on Hickam Field, Territory of Hawaii, on 7 December 1941. Staff Sergeant Meehan was wounded during the attack but refused to disclose he was wounded until after he had dispersed the planes, which at the time of the attack were in hangers, subjected to strafing and bombing. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Meehan, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.

Meehan (ASN: 6949374), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as a member of the Air Crew of a Bomber in the 4th Reconnaissance Squadron, 5th Bombardment Group (Heavy), THIRTEENTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations, in 1943. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technical Sergeant Meehan, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
