The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal John S. Medeiros (ASN: 31203324), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the Medical Department, 121st Army Air Forces Base Unit (CCTS-Ftr), Army Air Base, Bradley Field, Connecticut. On that date, an Army airplane crashed and burst into flame. There was imminent danger of explosion of gasoline tanks. Corporal Medeiros, at the risk of his life, climbed onto the burning airplane and with the help of other soldiers removed the semi-conscious pilot from the wreckage and carried him to safety.
