Evan McMinn earned his wings with the Royal Air Force before transferring to the U.S. Army Air Forces s a Staff Sergeant Pilot. Subsequently commissioned, as a fighter pilot he became a USAAF Air ACE, credited with destroying 5 enemy airplanes in aerial combat, before he was himself listed as missing in action following a mission on June 6, 1944, the opening day of the Normandy Invasion.
