    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Carl W. McKenzie (AFSN: FR-50531), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot over North Vietnam on 2 June 1967. On that date, Major McKenzie struck a major railroad yard in North Vietnam under intensive flak conditions. In spite of the intensive fire, Major McKenzie positioned his aircraft perfectly throughout the steep, high speed dive bomb pass. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major McKenzie reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Carl W. McKenzie (AFSN: FR-50531), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 30 March 1967. On that date, Major McKenzie led a strike force that was to attack a vital military complex and to follow up this strike by flying his force on a decoy mission through a highly defended area. Although fired upon several times by missiles and anti-aircraft fire and faced with a low fuel condition that required jettisoning of external stores, Major McKenzie pressed his attack to a successful conclusion. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major McKenzie reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Carl W. McKenzie (AFSN: FR-50531), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron, in action over North Vietnam on 1 May 1967. On that date, Major McKenzie led a force of sixteen aircraft to attack a highly defended steel mill. With complete disregard for his personal safety, and with calm determination, he successfully led his force through extremely intense anti-aircraft fire, surface-to-air missiles and hostile aircraft to accomplish the assigned mission. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major McKenzie has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Carl W. McKenzie (AFSN: FR-50531), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief Pilot over North Vietnam on 20 May 1967. On that date, Major McKenzie successfully attacked and destroyed a key truck repair depot in the heavily defended Hanoi area. Having successfully accomplished the assigned mission objective, Major McKenzie then went beyond the call of duty and, in complete disregard for his own safety, attacked a surface-to-air missile site which was observed to be menacing the exiting strike force of other F-105’s. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major McKenzie reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
