Headquarters, Far East Air Forces, General Orders No. 448 (September 5, 1952)

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major George Earl McKay (AFSN: AO-694086), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a Photo Reconnaissance Airplane of the FAR EAST Air Forces, in aerial operations in Korea, in 1952. Major McKay flew his unarmed Photo-Reconnaissance jet to obtain aerial pictures of enemy jet fighter bases across the Yalu River, despite the efforts of 10 MiG pilots to shoot him down. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major McKay, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
