Headquarters, 7th Air Force, Special Order G-1988 (November 11, 1967)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Major Morris Larosco McDaniel, Jr. (AFSN: FV-3041007), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while participating in aerial flight as a combat crew member serving with the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Korat Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, PACIFIC Air Force, in action over North Vietnam, on 3 October 1967. On that date, while under a concentrated Surface-to-Air missile attack from opposing forces, Major McDaniel heroically countered the threat to the main strike force by drawing the missile fire to himself and successfully attacking a missile site. Persevering in the face of danger and death, he relentlessly and effectively neutralized the hostile threat to the main strike force. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major McDaniel has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
