During World War II, George Loving became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war he transferred to the new U.S. Air Force, commanding the 9th Fighter-Bomber Squadron and flying 113 combat missions in the Korean War. He retired in 1979 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General.
