Joe Logan was pilot of a F-86E Sabrejet Fighter-Bomber with the 336th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group. On September 15, 1952, while on a combat mission, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire. He was unable to successfully bail out over Cho-do Island.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant Joe Adams Logan (AFSN: 23143-A), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy as Pilot of an F-86E Sabrejet Fighter-Bomber in the 336th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group, FIFTH Air Force, in action in Korea, in 1952. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Logan, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
