    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) to Major General Albert M. Kuhfeld (AFSN: 884A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as The Judge Advocate General of the United States Air Force, from 1 April 1960 to 30 September 1964. By virtue of General Kuhfeld’s leadership, The Judge Advocate General’s Department of the United States Air Force has attained a position of eminence among the military legal departments, and has provided outstanding legal servicers in the fields of military justice and civil law to the United States Air Force. Under General Kuhfeld’s guidance, a sound body of military criminal law has been developed through which the ends of justice may be served. Major General Kuhfeld was the moving force in the establishment of a meaningful retraining and rehabilitation program for convicted airmen which afforded many individuals an opportunity to earn an honorable place in society, and which saved invaluable trained manpower for the United States Air Force. Major General Kuhfeld’s unparalleled achievements in this important assignment are in keeping with the highest standards of performance and traditions of the military service.
