The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Third Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Clarence Kough, Jr. (AFSN: FR-47058), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 18 January 1967. On that date, Major Kough was a member of a flight of four F-105 aircraft on a strike against a vital railroad bridge. With complete disregard for his personal safety in the face of one of the most devastating and accurate anti-aircraft barrages of the conflict, Major Kough attacked the target and shared in its destruction. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Kough reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
